
Composer Anna-Margret Noorhani (b. 1999) has a remarkably wide-ranging creative output, spanning from orchestral works to audiovisual installations. Her work is characterized by an inventive use of acoustic and electronic elements, crafting immersive soundscapes that captivate audiences on multiple sensory levels. She approaches each project as a unique world of its own, infusing her music with a diverse mix of styles and influences that can range from rock-inspired sounds to serene minimalism.
Her piece Process of Immersion for brass quintet won third place at the Young Composer competition in Tallinn in 2018 and first place in 2019 with flutonic distortion for flute and electronics. Her audiovisual work Insomnia was one of three laureates in the first Audiovisual Composition Competition at the Estonian Academy of Music and Theatre. In 2023, her work METRO 8 for drum set and cello was selected to participate in the International Rostrum of Composers (IRC), organized by the International Music Council. She has received numerous commissions from prominent institutions, such as the Drôme Chamber Orchestra, Helsinki Chamber Orchestra, Lutetia Trombone Quartet, Trio '95 and the Philharmonie de Paris.
Her music has been performed at various European festivals, including InSonic 2017 at ZKM in Karlsruhe, Baltic Music Days/Estonian Music Days 2021 in Tallinn, Jeunes Talents Européens at the Museum of the National Archives in Paris, and the Festival de Musique Sacrée in Crest, France.
BIOGRAPHY
Noorhani studied composition at Tallinn Music High School with Ülo Krigul and at the Estonian Academy of Music and Theatre under the guidance of Helena Tulve and Toivo Tulev. From 2014 to 2018, she participated in the Creative Laboratory summer school, where she was mentored by Tatjana Kozlova-Johannes, Kristo Matson, Tauno Aints, Maria Kõrvits, and Liis Viira. Since 2021, Noorhani has been studying composition at the Conservatoire National Supérieur de Musique et de Danse de Lyon with David Chappuis. She has also undertaken individual lessons with Adam Porębski, Yan Maresz, Slavomir Horinka, Mauro Lanza, Luca Antignani, and Daniel D’Adamo.
